This is a fabulous haberdashery type cabinet which originally came from a French printer's type foundry 'Deberny et Peignot and was later used in a haberdashery shop. Located in Paris, Deberny & Peignot (Fonderie Deberny et Peignot) was a French type foundry (creating fonts for print), created by the 1923 merger of G. Peignot & Fils and Deberny & Cie and is now part of Monotype Corporation They were the creators of many fonts including Univers and Garamond.

This very large and solid, stained pine cabinet with oak detail and runners would have been used in their showrooms or factory to hold large sheets of paper and font samples. It has a thick planked top with two panelled doors beneath opening to reveal the five original numbered slide out drawers. Lots of nice original vintage details throughout including the handles on the doors embossed with the maker's name 'Deberny et Peignot'. There is some wear and marks commensurate with age and the bottom skirt on one side is damaged at the base but the cabinet is still sound and solid and looks superb.
