A large antique metal travel chest with an unusual corrugated construction and with ebonised deep black japanned paint. Made by Jones Brothers of Wolverhampton and dating from 1900, this fabulous chest is in great condition, with makers labels to the inside of the lid and its original oxblood red japanned interior. The lid opens and closes smoothly and has the original branded lock (no keys). 

 

Perfect for storage in bedroom, bootroom or just about anywhere in the home.

Jones Brothers & Co was a prominent 19th-century Wolverhampton metalware company founded in 1853/1854. Based in Ablow Street, they produced japanned goods, art metalware, coal scuttles, and specialized in travelling trunks. The business was run by brothers William Highfield Jones, Joseph Jones, and John Jones, who were key local figures, with each serving as Mayor of Wolverhampton.
